To support Flashback Theater Co.’s commitment to developing and retaining local talent, we strive to provide accessible theater education opportunities for all ages and experience levels through opportunities in our Professional Training Ground Program. Additionally, Flashback serves the community through events focused on Theatre Advocacy in our Community, introducing the magic of theater to new audiences throughout the Lake Cumberland region, and inviting them to engage in meaningful discussion about Flashback’s community role on and off stage.
Professional Training Ground
The Professional Training Ground encompasses all of Flashback’s artist development programming. Our programming is designed to strengthen the work of our local performing artists. At Flashback Theater Co, we believe that theater education is a lifelong pursuit, and our artists thrive when given the opportunity to continually develop their skills and technique.
SomerStage Tour Program
A performance and process during the summertime that is designed to be an accessible space for newcomers to theater as well as an engaging opportunity for seasoned theater artists to play and make new discoveries. Young artists ages 12-18 are especially encouraged to participate as part of the Youth Training Ensemble. The SomerStage Tour travels to areas in the region beyond Pulaski County, thus introducing Flashback Theater Co. to new audiences.
Masterclasses
For performers interested in developing their skills in a specific area of expertise, Flashback offers Masterclasses. Led by experts with regional and national experience. Learn more about our 2024-25 offerings here.
New Play Development
Flashback Theater is passionate about developing new work that showcases the voices of our region. Each year, a weeklong workshop wherein a playwright is invited to bring in a new work of theater to develop into a piece that is more ready for production. The playwright will collaborate with a director, actors, and other artists to fine tune their work. We are especially interested in work that relates to our community, be it in content or by working with local playwrights. Through development workshops, Flashback has produced the world premiere productions of Mary: Her Story by Amber Frangos, Rosies: The Women Who Riveted the Nation by Amber Frangos and Boats Against The Current by William H. McCann. Learn more here.
Theater Advocacy in Our Community
Our Theater Advocacy Programming invites all members of our community, whether they be performers or not, to join us in celebrating the transformative power of theater through discussions, workshops, and community outreach events. We invite you to learn more about Flashback, Theater, and how to advocate for arts in our region, while we learn more about how we can better serve our community. Everyone is invited!
Script Club
Meeting once a month, community members are invited to read plays and discuss them in a group setting. Much like a book club – but for plays! Through attendance participants will be introduced to new plays and provide valuable feedback that helps Flashback better understand what our audience wants and needs in terms of season programming.
