Get Involved for the 2021-22 Season of Productions
The 2021-22 season celebrates our return to the stage! Local theater artists and lovers are invited to audition or interview during the weeks of August 11-21. Available roles include cast members, production designers, stage managers, and crew members.
Individual appointments are available Wednesday through Saturday each week, and can be scheduled online by following this link or by calling (888) 394-3282, ext. 0. If no available time works for you, please call or email and ask for an alternate time.
Callbacks will be held on Sunday, August 29 for Mary: Her Story, Santaland Diaries, and The Mousetrap. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, September 12 for All Together Now! Additional callbacks may be scheduled as necessary to accomodate special circumstances but that is solely at the discretion of the production team and it is most beneficial to the actor to be seen on the same day as other callbacks, so please plan accordingly.
Production Information
Each of the productions will primarily rehearse in the Black Box at Flashback Theater, but performance venues vary. The dates and confirmed details of each show are as follows.

The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris
December 9-11, 2021
Directed by Bradley Shane Gilmore
Out of work, our slacker decides to become a Macy’s elf during the holiday crunch. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa’s workshop, he becomes battle-weary and bitter. Finding consolation in the fact that some of the other elves were television extras on One Life to Live, he grins and bears it, occasionally taking out his frustrations on the children and parents alike. The piece ends with yet another Santa being ushered into the workshop, but this one is different from the lecherous or drunken ones with whom he has had to work. This Santa actually seems to care about and love the children who come to see him, startling our hero into an uncharacteristic moment of goodwill, just before his employment runs out.
The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie
February 10-20, 2022
Directed by Jade Ellis
After a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. A police detective, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house; a spinster with a curious background; an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major; a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate. This record-breaking murder mystery features a brilliant surprise finish from Dame Agatha Christie, the foremost mystery writer of her time.
Mary: Her Story by Amber Frangos and Maria McNeil
May 12-22, 2022
Directed by Amber Frangos
A minor character with a major role in the Christian story takes the lead in this original musical work. Mary’s very human story reveals the conflicts we all face when we question faith, love, and sacrifice. This world premiere will be presented by Flashback Theater and follows three years of dedicated workshop development and support.
*Actors should plan to be available for the week of September 27 – October 1, 2021 if you wish to be considered for Mary: Her Story. This will be a mandatory workshop week to finalize music.
What to Prepare
ACTORS
You should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue that showcases your stage presence and acting range, as well as a song from the musical theater canon to best indicate your vocal strengths. A second contrasting monologue is acceptable in lieu of a song if you do not wish to be considered for musical roles. You will need to provide any required accompaniment for your audition – a piano and a bluetooth speaker will be available.
Please bring a headshot and acting resume if available. You will fill out a contact form at your audition time. Email is our primary way of contacting actors for call backs, so please be sure you provide an email that you check regularly.
PRODUCTION CREW
You should prepare a list of past theater experience, if you have any. If not, think about the skills and experience you have that would translate well to backstage and production. This can be communication skills, design or construction experience, etc. If you have any particular interest in learning a new skill or working on a specific show or project, be prepared to discuss that as well. In the case of production designers, please also bring a few photos of past work. If you don’t have previous theater design experience but are interested in gaining experience in a particular design area, any photo of applicable design work will suffice. (For example, if you are interested in set design, you could bring a picture of a room in your home you have decorated. If you are interested in costume design, you could bring a few pictures of clothing you have created or outfits that you feel represent your design aesthetic.)
New to Flashback Theater?
By auditioning or interviewing for the entire season, you are indicating interest in being considered for opportunities throughout the entire upcoming year. You will be able to indicate on your audition form if you are unavailable for particular shows. The director of each show will be calling back individuals from this pool of talent for show specific opportunities based on your type, experience, and availability. For this reason, it is helpful if you bring a photo of yourself and a theater resume or list of previous theater experience for later reference.
You will fill out a contact form at your appointment. Email is our primary way of contact, so please be sure you provide an email that you check regularly. Our artists are typically paid a stipend to offset the costs of attending rehearsals. We are a semi-professional company, and we operate in a professional atmosphere. Our artists are treated with respect and we expect you to return that respect by showing up on time to all rehearsals and performances, and collaborating in a positive manner. Your audition or interview is the first opportunity to show your respect for the theater process and thus your ability to work well with us; so arrive early, be prepared, and always say “Thank you!”
