Amber Frangos in the 5th Annual Season Announcement Cabaret
Auditions for our 2020 Season Announcement Cabaret will be held on February 27 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and February 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Flashback Theater Co. (FbTC). Performers selected will be featured in Flashback Theater’s Sixth Annual Season Announcement Cabaret on April 11th at 7:00 p.m.
Each performer selected to participate in the Cabaret will receive a complimentary vocal and/or performance coaching from Maria McNeil and/or Sommer Schoch during the last week of March. The coaching will be the performers chance to refine and polish their material in advance of the public performance. Maria McNeil is the Founder and CEO at McNeil Music Center (MMC). This event is an annual collaboration of MMC and FbTC that is designed to support performers in learning how to work on personal pieces and challenge themselves to learn and grow as artists.

This year, performers should select a performance piece that reflects the theme Role Reversal. Selections can be songs, monologues, or scenes from the theater canon or an original work written by the performer.
“The theme is really up for interpretation,” says Schoch. “It should be a personal reflection of each performer, and challenge them to find something new to work on that is going to highlight their unique perspective.”
Last year, some performers chose to use the house band for their performance, which will be an option again this year. The audition panel will select the performances that will benefit most from the house band so performers only need to audition with piano accompaniment. Bradley Gilmore will be returning as Band Leader to make rehearsal arrangements for those selected performers.
This year, an optional Dance Call will be held for a group number. Choreographed by local high school senior, Emma Coomer, this will create an opportunity for dancers and musical theater artists to showcase their talent at the Cabaret. The dance call will be held immediately following individual auditions. Those selected for the group number will have two additional group rehearsals before the Cabaret performance.
WHAT TO PREPARE
Be ready to perform the material you would like to be considered for the Cabaret performance. It can be a monologue, scene, solo number, or group number from a staged musical, play, or original work. If you have a headshot and performing resume, please bring them. Piano accompaniment will be provided for those who provide sheet music to [email protected] by February 15, 2020. You may also bring your own accompaniment in the form of a music recording or another pianist. Please note all music at the Cabaret performance will be live and it is to your benefit to audition to live music. If you are going to participate in the dance call, please plan accordingly and wear or bring a change of clothing and footwear that will be comfortable to dance in.
REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES
The performance will be held Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Black Box at Flashback Theater. A mandatory dress rehearsal will be held that morning at 10:00 a.m. Each performer or group will also schedule a private performance coaching the last week of March. Those selected for the dance number will also need to plan on attending rehearsals on Tuesday, March 24th and Thursday, April 9.
