Join Flashback Theater Co. (FbTC) for an evening of theatrical fun at the 10th Annual Season Announcement Cabaret, brought to you by LCTourism! Celebrating ten seasons of Flashback Theater, local performers will take the stage performing songs and scenes from FbTC’s epic history. Between acts, Producing Artistic Director Sommer Schoch will announce the 2024-25 season of productions. The showcase will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will take place in The Virginia, located at 214 E Mount Vernon Street in Somerset. Audience members are encouraged to reserve their seat in advance, as space is limited. Audience members of all ages are invited to attend and all seats are pay what you can, although the suggested donation is $20.
The Season Announcement Cabaret is a tradition that began during FbTC’s very first
season. Gathered in the wine cellar at the former Cooper Community Arts Center, audience members, donors, and supporters of Flashback gathered to see artists share their talents and get excited about what the new year at Flashback had to offer. As FbTC has developed each year, so has the Cabaret; growing from a small intimate setting to a lively celebration in Somerset’s beloved renovated movie house, The Virginia.
As much as the event has grown, the basic premise remains the same. FbTC veterans and newcomers alike come together to offer audiences a collection of short performances. Songs, scenes, and monologues that pertain to a unique theme each year. This year, to celebrate a landmark 10 seasons, the theme is: “Rewind.” Each performer has chosen a piece from a Flashback Theater production performed in the last ten seasons. This is a chance for artists to revisit their favorite show, step into a role they would have enjoyed playing, or try a different part than one they played in a show. Traditionally, the Cabaret is a chance for artists to really stretch themselves, which is supported by coaching sessions with professional Flashback artists, Sommer Schoch and Theresa Jean Kibby.
Though the “Rewind” theme focuses on Flashback’s past and all that the company has accomplished, the event is also a celebration of Flashback’s future and all there is to look forward to! For the past several months, the team at Flashback has worked to plan an exciting season of productions: which will be announced to the public as well as our community of artists for the first time between acts during the Cabaret. Those with the means are encouraged to make donations to Flashback at the Cabaret to contribute to the upcoming season.
This years performers will include David Eads, Billy Christopher Maupin, Alexia VanNoy, Bailey Patterson, Joy Chaney, Micheal Taylor, Jenny Denney, Matthew Morris, Gregory Blair, Amber Frangos, Johnna Atkinson-Bigelow, Michele Hinton, Hayley Smith, Chris Harris, Mistaya Denton, and Renate Dopp. Musical performers will be accompanied by live musicians, including piano and a full live band led by Bradley Gilmore for select performances. Musicians include: Debby McDonald (piano), Devin Phelps (guitar), Rick Winstead (bass), and Bradley Gilmore (drum kit). The stage manager for the Cabaret is Mahayla Mounce.
