About Flashback Theater Co.

Flashback Theater Co. (FbTC) is a producing theater company in Somerset, Kentucky with the mission of exploring our present relationship to the world through the lens of our past interactions as a community and through the passionate pursuit of theater that speaks to the soul. It is FbTC’s vision to have a performing arts environment in our region that uplifts local talent because the community values experiencing art in our world.

The core values of Flashback Theater are: Courtesy, Artist Cultivation, Creative Collaboration, Connection to Community, and Respect. These ideals guide the board, staff, and artists in their work at Flashback, and should be used to align each person’s activity within the organization to the collective vision, moving everyone forward together towards the goals outlined in our strategic plan.

The strategic plan identifies three main goals for Flashback in the next 5 years:

  • Maintain artistic programming of a quality consistent with other major regional theaters.
  • Build organizational capacity to sustainably support year-round, quality programming.
  • Plan for a permanent spacethat will meet the needs of a fully functional regional theater with year-round, high quality programming.

FbTC is a tax-exempt, 501(c)3 non-profit organization with one full time staff member and four part-time staff members. Over 50 artists participate in productions at Flashback annually, and close to 1,000 households are on FbTC’s mailing list. Founded in 2014, FbTC has grown incrementally over time, carefully matching the resources of local community artists to the needs of an audience, while planning for ways to expand artist growth to match future audience wants. While it remains a small scale theater operation, Flashback’s strength lies in its adhesion to a strong vision and mission, and a collaborative spirit amongst artists and staff, which engages the community in a meaningful way.

Annual programming at Flashback includes three mainstage productions each year, one smaller Fringe production, and educational offerings through the Professional Training Ground program (such as workshops, masterclasses, Script Club, etc.) A full production history is available on Flashback Theater’s website: www.flashbacktheater.co/history.
